This year will be a little different. Weekday morning masters will be moving inside to Centennial at the start of August. Noon-time masters won’t be moving back to the Rec Center until after Labor Day. Saturday morning masters will switch back to 7 am to 8 am at Centennial after Labor Day. Here’s the summary:

Hurry up and get to Sunset while you can!
Stay home and celebrate. There is no masters swim on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Had you heard that there was no hot water for the showers at Sunset? Has that kept you from swimming? Well, you lost that as an excuse. I don’t know when it happened, but it’s fixed now.
Hot showers. It makes it all worth it.
Conditions can change quickly, but this is how things looked for the noontime swim at Sunset Pool, Tuesday, 5/27/25.

First of all, it’s awesome. Swimming outside rocks. We switch from dealing with perfume from the water exercise ladies to huffing lawn mower exhaust. Although the skies were a little stormy to the north, the sun was out. And even though the air temp was in the low 60s, the water temp was a comfortable 79 – 80 degrees.

Secondly, we have new lane ropes and backstroke flags! They are still working out the kinks. The attachment method in use Tuesday is tenuous and will hopefully be replaced quickly. In their current state, a couple of the ropes are a little too long, and impossible to tighten.

Next — new kickboards! A new storage box is in the southwest corner where the (empty) storage bench used to be. And although there aren’t enough kickboards to outfit an entire masters group, there are at least a dozen. (Let’s see how long they last.)

Next — recognize this spot? This is where the pace clock normally is. Last year’s pace clock was a wreck. Based on what I saw in the pool office Tuesday, I believe there’s a new pace clock being prepped. Let’s hope it doesn’t take long to make an appearance.
Like I said, conditions can change quickly. The new clock might be out there as I type this. The ropes might be straight. You’ll have to show up to see for yourself.
Here’s to a new season swimming outdoors!
