LOCO SWIMMING

Ok, I admit the post I made about the 30+ river swim in North Dakota was kind of extreme. I got email this morning about something much more doable: 2000 meter “downhill” swim through the center of Austin. The only downside I see is that it’s coming up soon: April 28. Need more incentive? It’s a fundraiser for prostate cancer.  Read more about it here.

A new development at Centennial: a crack in the deck! Read about it here:

Concrete repairs to the diving well wall have been completed. New developments have been discovered regarding a crack in the pool deck above the pump room. When cleaning the pool deck, water began pouring into the pump room, from this crack. The Engineer who performed the structural integrity report of the diving well, has been consulted. Work to discover the scope of this situation will begin on February 22, with a repair plan to follow. Estimated timeline for the entire project is 2-4 weeks.

Looks like we’re not getting into Centennial until at least the end of March.

If  you are considering a long swim (I mean, a REALLY long swim), how about this one: The Extreme North Dakota Watersports Endurance Test (END-WET). Thirty six miles downstream in the Red River. You end up in Grand Forks, ND.

If you do it, make sure you come back with a story.

We’ve been hearing news about an impending opening of Centennial Pool for a few weeks. The last story in the Times-Call was a month ago and said the target opening date was January 30, 2019. The last posting on the city website is from more than two weeks ago does not mention an opening date.  My understanding is that there is one more high-stakes diagnostic test yet to be run that could impact the schedule, but I haven’t heard any more about it.  Basically I’m posting to say I don’t have anything new to say.

Know that as soon as I know what the plan is, I’ll make sure that you know. ‘K?

Beginning masters starts up next Tuesday, January 8. It will be from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the Longmont Rec Center.  Steve and Zach will share coaching duties.
